RNZ It is hard to pick one song from this live set, there was some magical moments. John is a human metronome, Dan lays down the grooves and Phil, well is pushing his guitar, amps and effects to a heavenly level. The band is super tight locking in so well that it sounds at times that there are three guitar players as Phil performance of live loops and layers of guitar amassment. One of the best live Glass Harp recordings so far to hit Band Camp! Favorite track: A Sign Came Through A Window.

Mike Will Neal, thank you for the short notes on the back story for this release. It makes me think of an athlete playing the game they love and being sick. Then they go out and have one of the best games in their career. I can hear moments of the bands tiredness, and then all of a sudden "bam" they hit it beyond anything that they've ever done. This is my short exposition on this release. Thank you, Glass Harp Team.
ps. I can't pick just one favorite. But, come on over 15 minutes of "Chalice!"

about

Mother's Day is meant to be spent with our parents or our children as a special day.
May 12, 2013, was an unusual Mother's Day because somehow a weekend of rare GLASS HARP shows were scheduled. The band was booked to play at the FUR PEACE RANCH in Western Ohio, on Saturday night, and at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin, Pa on Sunday. They had a great evening of music at the Fur Peace Ranch, but it was a late one, and they had to get up early enough to make a 6-hour drive to Franklin.

When they arrived, they were visibly worn and realizing it was Mother's Day without family, they were not their usual bubbly fellows! The opening act rushed through their set debuting their music and the stage was ready for GLASS HARP.

Franklin loves GLASS HARP and Phil Keaggy's solo shows, so there was a sold out theatre with very enthusiastic fans. Someone mentioned to Phil that the film crew who were there to record the opening band would gladly professionally video tape their performance but Phil wasn't really up for that and said NO! As many of you know from my many recordings here at BANDCAMP, I still ran a single camera and asked the sound company to multi-track the audio. I kept this to myself for 9 years until one late night I found those files on a forgotten hard drive. I decided to mix the multi-tracks just to revisit the night. What I found thrilled me! As tired as the band were, and as disappointed when they realized the show meant not being with their families, they performed (in what is my opinion) the finest live show of their career!

Phil walked onstage and started by wishing everyone a Happy Mother's Day, and performed a song for his Mother and dedicated it to all of the mothers in attendance. It was as if something changed in that moment, and he had a renewed energy when Daniel and John joined him onstage. What happened next is extraordinary! The band did favorite songs, but in many ways unlike they had done them before. The jamming took many different directions and I sat mesmerized at what a treasure this recording was! Almost forgotten!
I called John the next day and Dropboxed the files to him and told him of how amazing the show was, and that in my mix, I boosted the drums and bass for a more power trio sound in the recording. A more aggressive mix so to speak. He listened and called me to tell me that he too thought this was a very special show and that he was going to give the files to the band's producer Mike Talanca at Tunetown Studios for a listen. A day passed and I got a call from Mike telling me to check my emails for 4 of the songs, and that he had CD copies ready for me, Daniel, John and Phil! He was so excited about this incredible show that he spent time without any breaks mixing this! And he heard the power of the band in those songs!

The band knew this one was special and wondered if it should be a commercial CD and LP release, but after a few months decided BANDCAMP would be a good place to share this special concert. (For now!)

I am honored to have been a GLASS HARP archivist all these 54 years, and having the guys consider me a friend has been the best. I am thrilled that the BANDCAMP team asked me to write some liner notes. (Maybe more than they wanted! Will see if I am edited! Ha!)
I could spend more of your time by reviewing each song, but I will just let the music speak to you! This is extremely high quality and is mixed and shared with love and care. One of the finest GLASS HARP offerings ever!!

about

Glass Harp Nashville, Tennessee

Glass Harp, featuring Phil Keaggy on guitar, John Sferra on drums and Daniel Pecchio on bass, is a bare bones group in the tradition of Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and fellow Ohio band, The James Gang.
They developed a signature sound of their own – a progressive approach that allowed the members, collectively and individually, to stretch beyond the confines of standard form.
